Methods of communication that connect people to the planet and inspire action
Climate change is the mother of all complex scientific problems. Telling its story requires new methods. Through how-to videos on agroforestry, blog posts about droughts, and photo essays about climate change adaptation crowdsourced from farmers, Amy Cruz, a communication specialist, has found ways to connect real people with this vast and seemingly insurmountable global threat. One project in Vietnam engaged farmers to communicate through photographs that climate change has been intensifying droughts, lengthening cold snaps, and reducing soil fertility. After participating, some farmers identified climate-smart agriculture techniques that made crops more resilient, and they received funding from local officials to implement the new technologies.
