Office of Residential Education

From providing programming in the residences to community engagement, ResEd oversees a myriad of opportunities for both the student body, as well as for the professional university staff by bringing both groups together to engage in the development of intellectual, educational and community building policies, programs, and activities.

Office of Residential Programs

Stanford offers several special residential options for students interested in vibrant living and learning communities.

Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education

The Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education (VPGE) opened in January 2007 to further Stanford University’s commitment to excellence in graduate education. The VPGE office serves Stanford's entire graduate student community of over 9,300 master's, doctoral, and professional degree students in over 200 graduate degree programs within all seven Schools.

Precourt Institute for Energy

The Stanford Precourt Institute for Energy draws on experts and resources across the university to help accelerate the transition to an affordable, low-carbon energy system for the world. Since its founding in 2009, the institute has become the go-to place for scholars, business leaders, policymakers and others seeking solutions to the world’s most difficult energy challenges. The institute carries out its mission by funding early-stage energy research, developing new technologies and policies, educating leaders, and nurturing a vibrant energy ecosystem here and abroad.

Residential & Dining Enterprises

Residential & Dining Enterprises supports the academic mission of the University by providing the highest quality services to students and other members of the university community in a sustainable and fiscally responsible manner.

School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences

Stanford Earth scientists work to gain a better understanding of our planet’s history and its future, the energy and resource base that supports society, geologic hazards that impact a growing population, a changing climate, and the challenge of sustainability. We use a variety of methods and tools to address our research questions, including field work, laboratory and experimental studies, and computer modeling.

Stanford Energy Club

The Stanford Energy Club is designed to be the central hub connecting the energy subcommunities at Stanford University. For a student searching for energy related events on campus, a local researcher looking for resources at Stanford, or an organization searching for a way to promote and publicize an event — our goal is for Stanford Energy Club to be the first place to turn to in order to locate and promote energy events and resources. We work to fulfill our mission by both providing venues for interaction to occur, as well as supporting and empowering others, both on campus and off, who are bringing the energy community together.

Sustainable Stanford

Sustainable Stanford is a university-wide effort to reduce our environmental impact, preserve resources, and show sustainability in action. We’re determined to lead in researching, teaching, and practicing environmental sustainability. Our vision: create a healthier environment now and richer possibilities for generations to come. Dedication to outreach and a culture of innovation have been central to Stanford’s mission since its founding in 1891, when Jane and Leland Stanford exhorted university leaders to “promote the public welfare by exercising an influence on behalf of humanity and civilization.” That sense of purpose drives our commitment to incorporating sustainability practices and thinking into every aspect of campus life.

Woods Institute for the Environment

The Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment is working toward a future in which societies meet people’s needs for water, food, health and other vital services while protecting and nurturing the planet. As the university's hub of interdisciplinary environment and sustainability research, the Stanford Woods Institute is the go-to place for Stanford faculty, researchers and students to collaborate on environmental research. Their interdisciplinary work crosses sectors and disciplines, advancing solutions to the most critical, complex environmental and sustainability challenges.

Working on campus and around the globe, the Stanford Woods Institute community develops environmental leaders; informs decision-makers with unbiased scientific data; and convenes experts from all of Stanford’s seven schools, other leading academic institutions, government, NGOs, foundations and business. The Stanford Woods Institute is pursuing breakthrough solutions that link knowledge to action and solve the environmental challenges of today and tomorrow.
